HONG KONG ON SCREEN

a window to Hong Kong cinema

Hong Kong On Screen (HKOS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the voice of freedom from Hong Kong and promoting its rich local culture through cinema, cultural exchange, and open dialogue. We aim to provide a platform for Hong Kong’s creative community to share their stories and works with audiences across the Greater Los Angeles area.

Founded in 2022 by a group of Hongkongers—some with backgrounds in filmmaking, others simply passionate cinephiles—a shared love unites our team for Hong Kong cinema and a deep commitment to celebrating and sustaining its cultural legacy abroad.

Since our founding, Hong Kong On Screen has operated entirely through volunteer efforts. Over the past few years, we’ve curated special screening series, hosted an online showcase of Hong Kong independent films, and organized the 2025 HK Indie Film Award Finalists Screening. While some events have drawn full houses, others have gone unnoticed, reminding us that promoting cultural understanding requires time, persistence, and genuine effort.

As we prepare for the 3rd Edition of the Hong Kong On Screen Film Festival, we urgently need your support. Hong Kong’s social and political landscape has undergone drastic changes since 2019, and much of its once-vibrant cultural expression is now under threat. As a small but passionate diaspora community in Los Angeles, we are determined to keep the light of Hong Kong cinema shining.

If you share this mission with us, please support our work by clicking here to donate or sponsor our annual flagship event. Your contribution—no matter the size—helps us sustain our vision, empower filmmakers, and preserve a culture that is fading from its home but still alive in its people.

Together, we can ensure that the voices of Hong Kong’s storytellers continue to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
